This isn’t done yet, but I thought it was worth posting. This represents less than 6 hours work using the underpainting technique that we’ve been studying in class for the past month or so. I used a lot of blue and yellow in the underpainting, which still shows through. On top of the underpainting is lots of short strokes, blobs with a “juicy” brush, and some longer brush strokes as well. All together, it gives the painting an impressionistic look. I need to spend a little more time on the center of the painting, where it lacks a sense of depth. I’m not mixing colors very much, just doing a lot of “pushing and pulling” with light and dark colors.
